AI Waste & Recycling Tracking System: Full-Chain IoT Platform
Waste management in commercial and industrial environments generates enormous data — but that data is rarely captured, structured, or acted upon. Different Engineering engineered a fully integrated IoT ecosystem that tracks waste from the point of generation to final disposal, combining AI vision, NFC/QR identification, and precision load sensing into a single, accountable platform.
The System Architecture
The platform integrates multiple hardware and software layers into a seamless tracking chain:
AI Camera Network. Computer vision cameras identify waste types at the point of generation, automating classification without requiring operator input. The AI layer continuously improves classification accuracy through operational data.
NFC & QR Identification. Each collection point and waste container is tagged with NFC chips and QR codes, enabling precise location tracking and chain-of-custody documentation throughout the disposal process.
PDA + Thermal Label Printer Interface. Field operators use ruggedized PDAs connected to thermal printers for real-time documentation — generating physical receipts and digital records simultaneously at the point of collection.
Custom Loadcells. Precision weight sensors at collection points capture accurate quantity data, enabling weight-based accountability and analytics across the entire waste stream.
From Data to Accountability
The platform aggregates data from all hardware nodes into a unified dashboard, enabling facility managers to monitor waste volumes, track sorting compliance, identify inefficiencies, and generate regulatory documentation automatically.
The result is a system that transforms waste management from a cost center into a data-driven operation with measurable environmental and financial outcomes.
